PC Meena takes charge as MCG commissioner: ‘Connecting with RWAs the priority’

Phool Chand Meena, a 2004 Indian administrative service (IAS) batch officer from the Haryana cadre who took charge as the commissioner of the municipal corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Wednesday, said his top priority will be to connect with residential welfare associations (RWAs) to understand their grievances.

“We will organise regular meetings and officials will be asked to visit residential areas regularly and identity the issues faced by them so that they can be resolved in a time-bound manner,” he said.

Meena met senior MCG officials at the civic body’s Sector 34 office, where he directed them to prepare a list of ongoing projects and decided to visit the project sites in the coming week, including the Bandhwari plant. “A new plan will be made to stop dumping at the oversaturated landfill and I have directed the team concerned to prepare a plan for management of daily solid waste, functioning of material recovery facilities and capacity to process 1,200 tonnes of waste generated daily in Gurugram. I will also check the report of the waste-to-energy (WTE) plant at the Bandhwari landfill site, which will open by February 2024,” said Meena.

Meena also said the civic body will prepare a list of defunct streetlights with the help of RWAs and check the areas in terms of cleanliness. “Strict action will be taken against people responsible for maintaining cleanliness if the areas are unclean. There are many complaints of overflowing sewage or blocked drains that will be looked into and a zero-tolerance policy will be adopted in cases of corruption. Strict action will be taken against officials who neglect their responsibilities,” he said.

Meena was also apprised about the MCG’s property tax system and complaints about newly generated property identities. “There are complaints that new property IDs have fetched wrong details of the residents’ properties due to which they are unable to pay taxes. We will organise camps to rectify the errors in the property IDs in different areas as the deadline to seek property tax rebate has been extended till January 31,” he said.
