MCG to verify deficit infrastructure in 24 illegal colonies

Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will constitute zone wise committee for cross-verifying deficit infrastructure in 24 illegal colonies. These include areas falling under New Palam Vihar, Bajgehra, and Chauma among others. The decision was taken during the MCG house meeting held at the John Hall in Civil Lines on Monday.

Madhusmita Moitra, chief town planner (CTP), MCG, introduced the proposal before the house. She said that the list of 24 illegal colonies considered for regularisation was sent by the Haryana Urban Local Bodies (ULB) to the corporation.

“The matter was placed before the house for consideration and approval. After discussing the matter in detail, it was decided that zone wise committees will be constituted for cross verifying deficiencies found in the drone survey of the 24 colonies. The colonies which fulfil prescribed norms will be sent to the Haryana government for approval while the MCG will ask for relaxation in norms for other colonies,” said a senior MCG official.

During the meeting, Madhu Azad, mayor, Gurugram cautioned MCG officials to prevent any kind of waterlogging the city during the upcoming monsoons.

“All kinds of concrete arrangements should be made in advance for tackling waterlogging. Despite this, if there is any problem, then concerned officers will be held accountable, and recommendations will be sent to Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and union minister Rao Inderjit Singh to against them,” Azad said.

Mukesh Kumar Ahuja, commissioner, MCG, directed all executive engineers to install adequate machinery at waterlogging-prone points within this week. Ahuja also said that solar plants will be installed in MCG buildings to save electricity, in response to a proposal tabled by the MCG ward 18 councillor.

Officials and councillors jointly decided that streetlights will be installed in MCG wards at places specified by the local municipal councillor. It was also decided that all MCG joint commissioners will carry out a survey of their respective zones for identifying illegal signboards, hoardings, and advertisements and remove them accordingly. Further, places will be marked for advertising material to be put up in the city.

An agenda for exempting property tax for all 53 villages falling under the MCG area along the lines of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was rejected as decisions on exempting such taxes can only be taken by the Haryana government.

Further, a proposal to build a sports stadium on a 12-acre plot in Basai was not approved as the said land belongs to the Haryana education department. An agenda by MCG ward 34 councillor Rama Rathee on converting a vacant plot in DLF Phase 2 into a sports ground was approved.
