Gurugram: Unauthorised structures razed without notice, claim residents
GURUGRAM : Residents of Suncity in Sector 54 have alleged that the department of town and country planning (DTCP) conducted a demolition drive against unauthorised construction in the township on Friday without prior notice.
An enforcement team demolished ramps and even water and sewer lines when residents were not present, they alleged. DTCP officials, however, refuted the allegations, saying action was taken as per norms and a similar drive would be conducted in DLF-3 soon.
Anil Kumar, a resident, alleged that the team targeted only smaller plots of 60 sq yards. “The department neither issued notices nor alerted residents so that they could take corrective measures,” he said.
In some cases, the DTCP team demolished a few temporary structures while the owners were away at work, residents alleged.
Meanwhile, district town planner RS Batth told TOI that notices were served to at least 35 property owners in the township. Unauthorised construction was carried out after occupation certificates were issued, he said.
“It is baseless to say that action was taken without prior notice; several notices have been sent to residents. Residents tried to build pressure to stop the action, but the drive will continue,” he said.
DTCP director KM Pandurang said action was taken in Suncity on the basis of complaints from the residents. Such drives will be conducted all over the city, he added.
