Gurugram: STPs working fine? Teams will inspect new sector condos

GURUGRAM: A joint team of the district town planner (enforcement) and hydrologists will survey the
residential societies in new sectors and Sohna and inspect whether the sewage treatment plants (STPs) are
functional.
This is after the department has been receiving complaints about illegal discharge of sewage in open areas
in the new sectors.
As per the rules, all the residential societies need a sewage treatment plant which should have zero
discharge. Devender Singh, advisor to the chief minister reviewed the status of pending complaints on the
CM redressal portal and directed the officials to ensure speedy disposal of the complaints

Multiple complaints related to illegal disposal of waste were filed on the portal and pictures were also
uploaded on social media showing tankers releasing sewage water in open areas close to residential
societies. Taking note of these complaints, Singh directed DTP (enforcement) and hydrologists to inspect
the residential areas of new sectors and submit a report.
HSPCB had earlier issued notices to developers to provide records of sewage waste being treated as per
the DTCP license norms.
According to sources in the department, there are at least 350 change of land use (CLU) holders who are
required to submit the record, however, none such details have been submitted.

During the inspection, the team will find out how many developers are treating the sewage waste and how
many societies do not have functional STPs.
There are around 35 newly developed sectors (81-115) along the Dwarka Expressway, having nearly 175
residential societies around 15 villages and many unauthorised colonies, whose sewage disposal is not
connected with GMDA’s master sewer lines. Residents of these sectors have been raising health and
environmental concerns regarding the disposal of sewage waste in their areas
