Gurugram development body plans four smart city projects by next March
GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) proposed four smart city projects for the current financial year worth Rs 69 crore.
The projects include smart water management, implementation of phase two of CCTV-based public safety and adaptive traffic management across the city for implementation of adaptive traffic light control system and connectivity at bus shelters and government buildings on optical fibre network. The cost of the projects will be Rs 19 crore, Rs 30 crore, Rs 10 crore and Rs 10 crore, respectively.
All projects have been approved at the recently held authority meeting and the metropolitan authority has now sought public feedback on them.
“We have put the details of the four projects on the website. Anyone who wants to give a suggestion can leave their comments within a period of one month,” said a senior GMDA official.
Talking about the projects, the official said that the smart water management project is aimed at efficiently providing safe and potable water to the citizens.
“The system will include setting up of a centralised monitoring system with a network across the city. The readings from various control & measuring systems installed within the city network will be transferred online to a centralised monitoring facility at Integrated Control and Command Centre (ICCC),” he said.
The CCTV project, on the other hand, is in its second phase as GMDA has already installed over 1,000 cameras. “ The phase 1 of the project aims to install 1,200 CCTV cameras at 222 junctions by end of June.
Based on the successful implementation of phase 1, the second phase will cover remaining 138 locations and install around 800 CCTV cameras during 2021-22,” the official said.
The adaptive traffic light control system will not only help cut down the waiting time at the traffic junctions but also ensure that the commuters can cross the junction in a single red light and do not have to wait for longer time periods, “ he added.
The fourth project includes establishing connectivity at bus shelter, government buildings and other important locations, within the GMDA Area, on the captive optical fiber network.
