Gurugram: Denying property tax information to officials may lead to FIR
GURUGRAM: MCG commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh has directed the taxation department to lodge FIRs against residents and societies if they do not cooperate with property tax surveyors.
The commissioner gave directions after receiving complaints that a number of condominiums and other housing societies, especially in the new sectors, are not allowing surveyors on their premises and are sharing restricted information.
The commissioner has also directed all zonal taxation officers to cut water and sewage connections of residents not cooperating and misbehaving with the property tax surveyors.
Besides, MCG will also stop providing its services to such residents for disrupting government work, officials said. “Property tax surveys for Gurgaon and new areas under the Municipal Corporation of Manesar have been outsourced to a company. We are facing problems in areas falling under the MCG and MCM, especially the societies in the new sectors. We want people to cooperate with us so that the survey is conducted smoothly,” said Dinesh Kumar, zonal taxation officer.
Surveyors have been asked to collect information about the land, its use (if it is residential or commercial property), ownership details, occupier of the land, area, carpet area, how many floors have been constructed, use of each floor and other details such as sewerage connection, water supply, lifts etc. Residents need to give these details for tax assessment.
Meanwhile, residents said that they will cooperate with the surveyors but the civic body should first provide them the basic amenities.
“It’s been two months that the new corporation was formed but residents are yet to get the basic facilities. Their focus should be on offering services to residents instead of property tax assessment,” said Amit Gupta, a resident of Sector 86.
