Gurugram civic body issues 147 challans for GRAP violations
GURUGRAM: The MCG has so far issued 147 challans amounting to Rs 17.3 lakh for violating Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) measures since its implementation on October 15. However, it has been able to recover only Rs 6.6 lakh from the violators. Most of the challans were issued for dust mitigation.
MCG officials said to mitigate pollution, they have been sprinkling sewage treated water using 30 tankers and eight fire brigades and also deployed 13 sweeping machines to clean roads across the city. “We are making efforts to ensure GRAP measures are followed considering the highest pollution levels. Residents should not carry out restricted activities,” said MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja.
The civic body has issued 44 challans amounting to nearly Rs 5 lakh for illegal dumping of construction and demolition waste; 66 challans of Rs 9.3 lakh over dust mitigation; two challans amounting to Rs 10,000 for garbage burning and six challans of a little over Rs 1 lakh to construction sites. Also, 14 challans of Rs 90,000 were issued for littering and dumping of waste and 11 others of Rs 75,000 to uncovered vehicles carrying garbage and C&D waste. Joint commissioner (HQ) Hariom Attri will monitor mechanised cleaning and sweeping, ban on single-use plastic, violations of burning of solid waste at Bandhwari plant and covering of vehicles carrying waste from collection points.
