Gurugram civic body cuts property tax defaulters’ water, sewage connection

GURUGRAM: Taking strict action against the property tax defaulters, the MCG taxation department on Wednesday cut the sewer and water connections of two shops in the Sector 31 market.

According to the officials, the action taken by the taxation branch of the civic body comes after the decision to cut water and sewage connections of the properties of tax defaulters besides sealing their properties.

“A team led by tax inspector Pankaj Saluja, on the directions of the zonal taxation officer Devender Kumar, cut water and sewerage connections of two shops in Sector 31 market, which falls under zone-4. Moreover, the team also sealed a building in Sector 35 for the non-payment of the property tax,” said SS Rohilla, spokesperson of MCG.

As many as 1,600 notices were sent to the property tax defaulters in all the zones before starting the drive to cut their water and sewerage connections. The MCG collected around Rs 105 crore in July.

The state government had earlier decided to give a 10% rebate to the property owners who pay their property tax for the 2020-21 assessment year by July 31.

However, this deadline to avail 10% rebate for the year 2020-21 is extended up to October 31, 2020.
