Gurugram: Check illegal construction in Chakkarpur, say DLF- 1 residents
GURUGRAM: Residents of DLF-1, which is located adjacent to Chakkarpur village, have raised concerns over rampant illegal constructions taking place in their neighbourhood for the past few months.
“More than half a dozen buildings, each having over four floors, have cropped up during the lockdown period flouting all norms mentioned in the rulebook.
These illegal buildings are owned by musclemen of Chakkarpur village and no action is being taken by the authorities in this matter which is a serious concern for residents of DLF-1. The construction activity has been going on night and day and in a brazen manner,” said a resident requesting anonymity.
Other residents claim their safety and is being compromised due to this rampant illegal construction that is going on. “These illegal structures being built on less than 2,000 square metres will jeopardise the safety and health of not only residents who will eventually live in these buildings due to rickety construction and materials, inadequate ventilation, no safety and sustainability measures, but also the nearby residents of adjacent colonies due to the grave danger of contamination of subsoil and groundwater.
A couple of months ago a tree was felled for the construction of two such buildings. There was no response from the authorities, despite being alerted. Two buildings have subsequently been erected right next to each other in that same space,” said another resident.
The MCG officials on their part said that they would look into the matter and take necessary action. “We will look into this matter and verify if needed permission was taken before constructing these buildings. If we find any norm has been violated, we will take action, which includes carrying out a demolition drive,” said a MCG official.
