Gurugram: Builder to stop DG backup, Chintels Paradiso residents fret
GURUGRAM: Residents of Chintels Paradiso — where a cave-in of flats killed two residents on February 10 — are at their wits’ end as the developer has decided to discontinue the use of diesel generator sets for the housing society’s power backup.
Department of Town and Country Planning has asked 22 developers, including Chintels, to curb the use of DG sets as well as submit an action taken report by August 4. However, the residents claim that the flats have no provision for installing inverters and continuous outages would create problems in the absence of a power backup in the society. Rakesh Hooda, president of Chintel’s Paradiso RWA, said, “On July 29, we received a notice about the discontinuation of the power backup facility. No flats have fittings for inverters and power backup from DG sets is a great source of relief for us.”
Tushar Chaudhary, another resident, said that the move would make the lives of around 400 families in the society miserable. “Adequate power infrastructure has not been developed in the society due to which we face regular outages and cuts. Power backup from DG sets is the only source of relief for us,” he said.
In fact, the 22 developers including Chintels, have been issued showcause notices for the use of DG sets. Director of town and country planning, K Makarand Pandurang, had asked the developers to submit an action taken report by August 4.
As per the direction of the CAQM, residential projects in NCR and adjoining areas are required to ensure that DG sets are limited to the functioning of elevators only.
HSPCB had directed the developers to complete all the formalities within 45 days to avail regular power connection before August 31.
