Gurugram: As plaster falls off walls, DLF New Town Heights residents seek an audit

GURUGRAM: Residents of DLF New Town Heights in Sector 90 have written to the department of town and country planning (DTCP) and sought a structural audit of the society.

According to residents, the project has several structural deficiencies, including chunks of plaster and concrete falling off frequently, cracks in balconies and leakage in shafts, which pose threats to their safety.

The basement areas have continuous seepage and leakages, which are compromising the structural integrity and foundation of the buildings, they said. Residents also alleged that no concrete efforts have been made to rectify the issues by the developer despite several complaints.

“We have demanded a structural audit from an independent authority as we are witnessing repeated incidents of plaster and concrete falling off at many places in the society,” said Prince Jain, president of the society’s condominium association. More than 10 such incidents have been witnessed in the past one month, residents said.

The project was launched in 2008 and possession started in 2014. There are more than 1,300 flats in the society, in which over 900 families are currently living. “The problem was there since the beginning, but this year, such incidents have become more common,” said Ashok Malik, a resident. “We have written to DTCP and the Haryana additional chief secretary and urged them to take timely action,” said Chintan Katare, the association’s secretary.

When contacted, a spokesperson of DLF, the developer, said: “We are already in discussion with the RWA to assess the situation and repair and maintenance work. Repairs of the facade will be taken up by the company.”

Meanwhile, district town planner (enforcement) Amit Madholia said, “I am yet to receive a complaint from the society but I will look into the matter.”
