A complete ban on construction activities has been mposed in the city due to poor air quality on the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The enforcement wing of the town and country planning department (DTCP) has also imposed fines altogether amounting to over Rs 5 lakh (Rs 30,000 on each offender) for violating the ban. Out of the 17 notices, nine were issued to residents of DLF-1 and eight to property owners in Uppal Southend and Vipul World. The department is carrying out strict monitoring on all construction activities in NCR cities on the directions of the government. DTCP has already appealed to Gurgaon residents to stop ongoing construction till further orders in view of the rising pollution levels. DTCP officials said in case any construction activity is found in licensed areas under developers, strict action in terms of penalty shall be taken, along with further course of action as per law.

“All developers are also directed to depute their officials concerned to carry out patrolling in their licensed areas to ensure that even individual unit owners don’t carry out construction. Officials will be visiting their areas to check for violations,” reads a recent order issued by DTCP to builders. Last week, DTCP constituted five teams to ensure that the ban on all types of construction and development activities in the city is enforced. The teams are keeping a check on any kind of individual construction in around 30 licensed colonies.
