Gurugram: 11 shops razed and 13 buildings sealed in DLF-3

GURUGRAM: As many as 13 buildings being constructed in violation of building norms were sealed and internal walls of additional floors were razed on the second day of the demolition drive in DLF-3 areas on Friday, a district town and country planning (DTCP) official said.

Also, 11 shops constructed on residential plots were demolished by the enforcement team, he added. The demolition drive was carried out in S and U blocks of DLF-3 with the help of 50 labourers and two earthmovers. As many as 100 police personnel were deployed in the area to avert any untoward incidents.

On Thursday, the DTCP’s enforcement team had razed illegal floors of 10 buildings and 12 shops in U block of DLF-3. The DTCP officials on Friday explained to the property owners that as these illegal structures could lead to major disasters, their removal and restoration are mandatory as per the norms.

Talking to TOI, district town planner (enforcement) RS Batth said the demolition and sealing drive will continue till October 15. He said eight floors were demolished and sealed in U block and five in S block of DLF-3 on Friday. The residents, he said, have been directed to remove illegally constructed parts in these buildings on their own.

“These illegal buildings can prove to be dangerous in case of any calamity. Apart from this, these are overburdening the infrastructure and causing inconvenience to other residents,” Batth added.

Assistant town planner Ashish Sharma said that a committee of residents of DLF-3 was set up to keep an eye on unauthorised construction on plots earmarked for houses in the economically weaker section (EWS) category within the licensed colony, but it failed to tackle the menace.

Sources said that the 60-sq-yard plots, tagged for homes for economically weaker sections (EWS), have been turned into five-storey buildings. Most of these buildings have been converted into paying guest facilities, most of which are occupied by people working in Cyber City.
