Errors in property IDs? Walk into Gurugram civic body camps to fix them

GURUGRAM: Residents of the city have reported numerous errors in the new property IDs that have been generated by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) after they completed their property tax survey.

While some residents complained that their properties are shown in their neighbour’s name, some said their house numbers in the new property ID are wrong. Some residents also claimed that they were unable to make the corrections online, and would therefore have to visit the MCG office to rectify the mistakes.

The MCG officials, however, said that they have set up camps to rectify these errors and resolve the grievances of the residents.

“The new property ID generated has the house number of my neighbour and his property ID has the house number of another neighbour. Moreover, the property ID mentioned in the notice sent by the MCG is different from the property ID that’s shown online. A majority of the other residents have also reported some error in the new property ID and said that they are unable to correct it online. The record as per the old property ID was correct, so there was no need to shift to new IDs, which are now full of errors. MCG should have made the new property IDs of only the newly-extended area,” said Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Sector 45.

A resident of Sector 9A, Nisha Rajawat, said that her new property ID has the wrong surname for her and her sister, who lives abroad. She is concerned whether she will be able to rectify the errors in the absence of her sister. “I have spoken to the MCG officials, they have told me to get some documents and report at the MCG office. A number of other residents in my sector have also reported similar errors,” added Rajawat.

According to the MCG survey, properties falling under the tax ambit within the MCG limits have surged to over 5 lakh, from 3.7 lakh just two years ago. Of the total of 5.03 lakh properties under the tax ambit, there are 3.16 lakh residential buildings, 61,571 commercial buildings, 4,983 industrial units, 2,014 institutional units, 78,820 vacant plots, 27,094 mixed use units and 4,496 units are earmarked for agricultural use. MCG had outsourced the task of conducting the property tax survey to a private agency in 2019.

MCG additional commissioner Vaishali Sharma, however, said that the online system of rectifying errors has been going on smoothly and the residents can apply online for corrections.

“We have also set up decentralised camps to resolve grievances related to property IDs, expeditiously. The private agency, which had conducted the property tax survey, has been instructed to resolve the online grievances in a time-bound manner,” added Sharma.
