Drone survey to scan illegal construction in Gurugram, flaws in infra on now
GURUGRAM: As residents welfare associations (RWAs) have been raising a demand for infrastructure
upgrade and curbs on unauthorised construction in licenced colonies, the department of town and country
planning (DTCP) on Wednesday started a drone survey in sectors 1 to 80.
The mapping of these sectors, through a government agency — DRIISHYA, is aimed at gathering
information on infrastructure deficiencies, unauthorised construction, and status of amenities for future
redevelopment plans. The drone survey will also record stilt plus four floor buildings in these sectors to keep a check on any violation of norms.
While infrastructure needs to be upgraded in sectors 1 to 57, the remaining sectors have issues related to
the 24-metre-road and encroachment on public spaces and government land.
Nine sectors have already been covered under the project and the survey is likely to be completed within a month. According to the government authorities, sectors 1 to 115 have been developed under Gurgaon Manesar master plan and there are various issues in these sectors. In such a scenario, the drone survey will help in identifying actual on ground issues which need immediate attention.
The data collected through this technique method in sync with Google location will be a much refined version of existing data, officials said. A senior official of DTCP said the survey has already covered sectors 15A, 15B, 23, 23A, 27, 37D, 45, 46and 65.
“In case there is a redevelopment plan prepared in future, the data collected through this survey will be
extremely helpful. The department will also be able to keep a watch on land earmarked for the 24-meterroad which has not been constructed till date. At a few places there is litigation, while others have been
encroached upon,” an official said.
Sources said there is a unified plan required for overall development of the city but encroachment is the
biggest hurdle before the authorities. The sector dividing roads and green belts have been encroached
upon by illegal nurseries, unauthorised structures among others.
With the permission to construct stilt plus four floors, the infrastructure in sectors has been overburdened.
The survey will ascertain the exact status of roads, sewerage, drainage, parks and other amenities. As per
rough estimate, there are around 20,000 floors constructed on 5,000 plots in residential licenced colonies. District town planner Rajesh Kaushik said several sectors of the city are being mapped through drone surveys and a detailed report will be prepared based on which action plan will be prepared.
