Delhi: 64,000 illegal constructions identified in past seven years
NEW DELHI: Delhi’s civic bodies and the special task force (STF) under Delhi Development Authority have identified only 64,321 illegal and unauthorised constructions in the past seven years, according to a reply submitted by the housing and urban affairs ministry to the Rajya Sabha.
The ministry said while the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have given data from 2016 onwards, the STF started the detection of illegal and unauthorised constructions from 2018 when it was set up.
According to the data, while the MCD has identified 53,171 illegal constructions, NDMC has detected only 240 such constructions since 2016. The STF has identified 10,900 violations.
The ministry in a written reply to a query said that so far nearly 30,000 illegal and unauthorised constructions have been sealed in the national capital. In the Delhi Cantonment Board area, only five illegal constructions have been demolished and 32 properties sealed so far.
