Delhi: 210 properties attached for tax default

NEW DELHI: Taking strict action against property tax defaulters, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has attached 210 properties since unification of the erstwhile three corporations of the city.

These properties are located in 12 zones and had not paid the tax to the tune of Rs 37.12 crore. “We gave various opportunities to these property tax defaulters to clear their dues. However, on account of their indifference to deposit the tax, the department was forced to attach the properties,” said an MCD official.

“We have recovered nearly Rs 4.2 crore so far and the drive to recover the remaining dues shall continue. We have attached bank accounts of 89 property tax defaulters,” said the official.

MCD has requested all the property tax payers to submit their dues on time and with correct assessment. “We have even launched a new amnesty scheme for unauthorised colonies, unauthorised regularised colonies, lal dora, extended lal dora, extended abadi of villages and properties allotted to Kashmiri migrants,” the official added.

The civic body has set a target of Rs 4,000 crore for property tax collection for 2022-23. Till August 15, the collection was Rs 1,242 crore.
