Clear all property tax dues by July 31 or face action: Gurugram civic body

GURUGRAM: MCG commissioner on Tuesday urged the residents to clear property tax dues by July 31 to avail a rebate of 10% in the 2021-22 fiscal. The civic body could start disconnecting water and sewerage connections of the defaulters from next month, he warned.

Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja said, “The residents can pay property tax on the website of the MCG. Moreover, people can also make the payment at the citizen facilitation centres of MCG offices in sectors 34 and 42. The payment can be made through demand draft or debit and credit cards. Cash payment upto Rs 5,000 is accepted at the citizen facilitation centres.”

MCG officials said that around 2,000 notices have been sent to defaulters to pay up their dues to avoid sealing of their properties and snapping of water and sewerage connections.

The cumulative property tax collection in the 2021-22 financial year so far has been over Rs 29 crore. According to the officials, property tax collection in April and May was Rs 1.02 crore and Rs 3.49 crore, respectively. June saw the highest collection in the current fiscal so far, with the MCG recovering Rs 24.84 crore of property tax.

MCG had estimated a revenue of Rs 1,103 crore from property taxes alone in the 2020-21 fiscal year, however, the civic body could generate only Rs 250 crore of income. The income from property tax in the 2021-22 fiscal year is estimated to be Rs 1,235 crore.

Moreover, the commissioner in a recent order issued had delegated the powers of monitoring and management of property tax, rent and trade licences to joint commissioners. According to the order, the zonal taxation officers will now work under the supervision of joint commissioners and all cases of recoveries will be reported to the joint commissioners.
