Chintels residents to hold protest on Feb 10 to mark one year of collapse
Gurugram: To mark one year of the Chintels Paradiso collapse in which two people were killed on February 10 last year, residents have decided to hold a protest and a candle march at the condominium.
Residents will also submit a memorandum to the district administration in the morning, said the residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Chintels Paradiso, which held a meeting on Sunday afternoon and finalised the protest plan.
Two residents were killed in tower D of the condominium after a partial collapse of six flats on February 10. In November, the district administration after recommendations from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Delhi), declared the entire tower unsafe and recommended that it be demolished.
Rakesh Hooda, president of Chintels RWA, said that they will hold a protest on February 10 to pay homage to the deceased persons and to remind the authorities to expedite the finalisation of compensation for the flat owners of tower D, who have already vacated the flats. “We want the authorities to announce the compensation to the flat owners. It has been one year and people are still waiting for compensation and living in rented flats as well as paying their EMIs,” he said.
Sandeep Barsayain, a resident who was present in Sunday’s meeting, said people in large numbers will gather at the condominium to hold a protest on Friday. “We will later go to the mini secretariat and submit a memorandum of demands. In the evening, there will be a candle march to pay homage to the victims,” he said.
Residents said that their protest is intended to remind people that their struggle is still underway and they are waiting for the government to do justice in the case.
