Uttar Pradesh government seeks report from Noida authority on Supertech Emerald Court

NOIDA: The Uttar Pradesh government has sought from Noida Authority a detailed report on Supertech’s Emerald Court housing project, which is the subject of an ongoing Supreme Court hearing.

The government’s move follows the Supreme Court rebuking Noida Authority as “a corrupt body” for toeing the developer’s line during arguments on the status of two residential towers inside Emerald Court – Apex and Ceyane – that the Allahabad high court had declared illegal in 2017 and ordered demolished.

The Supreme Court has stayed the high court order is yet to give its final verdict in the case. The Emerald Court RWA had gone to court against the twin towers.

Senior government officials said Noida Authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari had been asked to conduct a thorough inquiry and check for violations and wrongdoings.

“If anomalies or collusion is detected during the course of approvals for the project, the group of employees who were responsible for the loopholes will face severe action,” said an officer from the industries department who asked not to be named.

Noida Authority sources said role of officials posted in the planning division at the time of the approval of building plans will be scrutinised.

Roles of certain officials deputed in the legal and group housing divisions of the authority will be also examined, the sources added.

Supertech has argued in the Supreme Court that there was no violation of laws and all rules and regulations had been complied with.
