Gurugram: Flats delayed, Mahira Homes buyers hit the road

GURUGRAM: Fumed over delay in getting possession of their flats, homebuyers of Mahira Homes in
Sector 68 on Saturday staged a protest against the developer and DTCP for failing to ensure the
completion the project even after five years.
Holding banners and raising slogans, the protesters, including senior citizens and children, urged the
prime minister to intervene so that the construction resumes, which has been stopped since February 2022. Spread across 10 acres, the project was launched in April 2018 and was supposed to be completed by
August last year. In May, the DTCP had cancelled the project’s license for allegedly forging documents and fabricating bank guarantees, which has left around 1,500 homebuyers in quandary.

Subsequently, in September, the department restored the license and directed to complete the work within
6 months. However, the developer has repeatedly failed to restart the work with only 60% completed since the
inception of this project. Several complaints and meetings with the senior officials of DTCP have not yielded any result, buyers
claimed. Sachin Kumar, a homebuyer, said that he has lost all hope of getting the home anytime soon. “We have
contacted all possible officials, including DTCP, RERA, and even reached out to the chief minister and home minister but there was no relief provided to us. We want the work to start soon otherwise, a larger
protest will be planned,” he said.

Last week, the director general of DTCP, TL Satyaprakash issued a show cause notice to the developer
and directed him to reconfirm validity of all documents and removal of the irregularities either by
replacement of documents or by submission of fresh valid documents, failing which further action
regarding the suspension/ cancellation of license will be initiated.
Dhruv Kapoor, another buyer, said that project was under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
“We request the prime minister to intervene. We are constantly facing hardships of paying EMI, rents and getting the subsidy under the PMAY scheme. This has been causing immense suffering to the homebuyers financially as well as mentally, one ofthe allottees even attempted suicide. In the last 15 months, we have made multiple requests, all in vain,” he said. The developer did not respond to calls or texts from TOI
