Noida authority files police complaint against Supertech over faulty STP in society
NOIDA: The Noida Authority has filed a police complaint against Supertech for a non-compliant sewage treatment plant (STP) in its highrise society in Sector 137.
“The National Green Tribunal (NGT) guideline says that highrises must have functional sewage treatment plants (STPs). The inspection conducted by a team of the Authority’s Jal department found that Supertech Ecociti in Sector 137 has a functional STP but its treated water quality did not match the NGT standards,” states the August 18 complaint issued by assistant manager of Noida Authority, H U Farooq.
The Authority has asked the deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) to register an FIR against the developer. The letter does not state the discharged water quality of the STP. Noida Authority has named R K Arora, chairman Supertech, in this complaint. However, Supertech officials did not comment on the issue.
The move comes after the NGT fined Noida Authority Rs 100 crore for failing to prevent untreated sewage discharge to Kondli drain earlier this month. Noida was asked to deposit Rs 100 crore with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) towards interim compensation to be utilised for restoration measures in terms of a remedial plan.
The tribunal had also found that Noida has 95 highrises, of which only 76 have STPs, but 38 are non-compliant. Abhisht Kusum Gupta, who had filed this petition, said, “Preserving environment is the need of the hour and getting hold on erring developers will ensure that no one can manhandle environmental issues. Noida Authority should also ensure compliance of the STPs.”
Rambadan Singh, DCP Headquarters, said that he has not received the complaint yet. “We will take suitable action once we receive it,” he said.
