Noida Expressway to shut for 30 minutes on Supertech twin towers demolition day
NOIDA: The Noida Expressway will close for traffic for at least half an hour on the day the Supertech twin towers on the Emerald Court compoound in Sector 93A are demolished.
Traffic will be stopped at both ends of the expressway 15 minutes before the demolition and for the duration it takes for the dust to settle after the implosion, which is likely to be another 15 minutes.
On the arrangements for facilitating the demolition, Ganesh Prasad Saha, deputy commissioner of police, (traffic) Gautam Budh Nagar, said on Tuesday, “According to the guidelines, there should be no traffic movement within a 250-metre-radius area around the demolition site. So, we have decided to halt traffic movement on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway for half an hour. Traffic will get diverted near the Mahamaya Flyover. Traffic cops will guide commuters to take the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Road to reach Surajpur and Greater Noida. They can also take the Golf Course road to reach Sector 71 (Noida), Greater Noida West and Greater Noida.”
Similarly, Noida-bound commuters will be stopped at Pari Chowk and asked to take the DSC route or the Greater Noida West route. “The demolition will take place on a Sunday to ensure less traffic movement. We have deployed a traffic inspector for this. The inspector will observe the traffic movement and update officials so that we take suitable enforcement measures,” he said. Traffic police have advised commuters to plan their journey accordingly. “They can take Aqua Metro to avoid inconvenience that day,” the DCP added.
The twin towers, Apex and Ceyane, are scheduled to be demolished on August 21. But with important clarifications still being sought on the blast plan, the possibility of a deferment is not ruled out.
From Wednesday, police will restrict traffic movement on Subhash Chandra Bose Road in front of the twin towers to facilitate the agency involved in the demolition to transport explosives for charging the twin towers on the route. “There are four roads around the twin towers. Traffic restrictions will come into effect on one road from Wednesday. We will restrict traffic movement on the three other roads, Gejha Road, the Noida Expressway service lane and a road that connects Parsvnath Prestige to Gejha Road, on the day of demolition,” a traffic official said.
Explosives won’t be brought to the site from Wednesday, though, with the blast plan being scrutinised by the Central Building Research Institute, which has approve it.
The police said they would issue a traffic advisory from time to time to guide commuters in the area. Commuters can contact traffic police on the helpline number, 9971009001, for information about traffic diversions, officials said.
