Noida: Supertech hires firm to repair Emerald Court basements

NOIDA: With just four weeks to go for the demolition of the twin towers on August 21, a contractor has been belatedly appointed to fix the basements of other buildings of Emerald Court. The repair and retrofitting work will be done based on
recommendations of a structural analysis report by a Delhi-based private company which was hired by the Emerald Court RWA earlier this year to assess the condition of pillars and columns in the basements.

The audit by D & R Consultant had concluded that several columns in the basements had weakened drastically and needed immediate retrofitting. Its officials had said defects were found in at least 50% of the 500 basement
columns. There are about 2,200 columns in the basements, out of which 500 were picked for visual inspection in April and May. The audit report further stated that columns and beams had cracks on the surface
with corroded reinforcements.

The company had recommended “immediate retrofitting, strengthening of the deficient columns”, apart from ensuring their stability. On the basis of this report, Supertech has decided to repair columns falling within
a 50-metre range from the edge of the twin towers. Officials said Rasam has already started mobilising manpower, material and machines and the repair work is likely to start in a few days.

Emerald Court RWA president UBS Teotia said, “We have been informed that 40 critical columns have been selected for repair. The company which carried out the structural audit has suggested three types of technology — micro carbon, micro
concreting and jacketing — as per stability requirements. Most of these columns are in the area of three towers — Aspire 1, Aster 2 and 3. There are also some columns which are in the non-tower area.
