Greater Noida development body plans to rid city of C&D waste by April
NOIDA: A month-long drive has been rolled out by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) to clear all construction and demolition (C&D) waste from the city. The authority has released a date-wise schedule for each sector and urged residents to inform it on debris lying along roads.
Growing at a fast pace, Greater Noida generates a huge quantity of construction and demolition waste every day. The city’s first C&D waste plant, which is being constructed on 4.5 acres in Ecotech 3, is set to be ready for use in the next 18 months and will be used to recycle waste to make tiles, bricks, slabs and other materials, officials said
Narendra Bhooshan, the chief executive officer of the Greater Noida authority, said, “Under the month-long drive, C&D waste will be picked up from every nook and corner of the city and transported to the plant. Once the plant is operational, it will start processing the waste. For this, the authority has issued sector-wise schedules. On these dates, the team of the private firm will visit each sector and pick up the C&D waste and transport it to the plant.”
Tiles and other recycled materials will be made from the C&D waste at the plant, the CEO said, adding iron scrap will be separated and recycled while dust will be used to fill potholes and build roads.
“Residents can inform about C&D waste dumped in their areas on 9315906083, but they should not throw it around. A hefty fine will be imposed in case rules are not followed,” Bhooshan said. Officials informed that C&D waste collection centres have also been set up at eight places —Sectors 10-12, Sector 1, Sigma 2, Alpha 2, Beta 1, Delta 3, Knowledge Park 3 and Ecotech 12.
