Gurugram: DTCP writes to IIT-Roorkee for structural audit of five projects
GURUGRAM: The department of town and country planning (DTCP) has written to the head of civil engineering department of IIT-Roorkee on the scope of work for the structural audit of five residential projects along Dwarka Expressway.
A team from the institute will determine the quality of construction and find out the root cause of structural defects and seepage. The team will also ascertain if the buildings are structurally safe for habitation or can be made safe for habitation after undertaking required measures.
In the letter, senior town planner Sanjeev Mann requested SK Ghost, head of the civil engineering department at IIT-Roorkee, to constitute a team and conduct a structural audit of five societies — M3M Woodshire, Raheja Atharva and Vedaanta, Brisk Lumbini and Mahindra Aura — on an urgent basis.
The broad terms of reference were mentioned and would be finalised after a preliminary site visit by the audit team and approval of the DTCP director, the letter said.
“Determine the quality of construction of the buildings in these five projects, which include use of material in required ratio, quality of steel and other material used and the root cause of structure defects, seepage and other issues,” it further said.
The IIT-Roorkee team will also undertake a detailed scrutiny of the structural drawings/designs as well as the documentation of the mechanism and personnel involved in the construction. The letter further mentioned that the audit team will also suggest the safeguards/measures to be followed to avoid structural defects in future and flag any other issues of stability of structure or quality of material noticed and suggest measures to resolve them.
District town planner RS Batth said the department will provide all assistance required for conducting the audit. “The audit team may carry out a preliminary site visit and convey the methodology for the structure audit and inform us of the professional fee/charges along with the timeline for completing the exercise,” he said.
