Greater Noida’s first construction and demolition waste plant by next year?

NOIDA: Greater Noida’s first construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant will be built in Ecotech III, at a cost of Rs 11 crore. The plant will be ready in the next one-and-a-half years, officials said.

So far, over 2,000 tonnes of debris have been lifted from more than 35 locations of the city and transported to the site in Ecotech III.

Once operational, officials said, the debris from this plant will be processed to make tiles, which can be used further in construction work.

“C&D waste is coming out in large quantities in the rapidly developing Greater Noida and for this, it’s necessary to build a C&D waste plant,” GNIDA’s CEO Narendra Bhushan said. “With the construction of this plant, the debris will be processed entirely and help in making Greater Noida cleaner.”

During a review meeting on Wednesday, Bhushan also directed officials to ensure that construction debris is dumped in collection centres only. “If any person is caught dumping C&D waste at a place from where the debris has already been lifted, then a penalty will also be imposed on the offender,” an official said.

A helpline number — 9315906083 — has also been issued for lifting construction debris in Greater Noida. This number belongs to a private firm, Rise Eleven, which is building the plant on a public-private partnership mode. Moreover, this number can be used to report dumping of debris in the city.

Officials said that the work of this plant started in December last year.

“The debris will be processed here. Iron bars from the debris will be separated and recycled, while the dust will be used to fill potholes and build roads. The plant will have the capacity to process 100 tonnes of debris per day. The private firm, which is setting up this plant, will charge Rs 407 per tonne,” an official said.

Manoj Saxena, director of Rise Eleven, said, “We are going to utilise 100% of debris and convert them into recycled materials interlocking tiles, pebbles and blocks. They will be available in the open market and also used for government projects.” This company is already running a similar plant in Delhi’s Burari.

As many as 10 collection centres are also being set up to collect C&D waste. Seven of them are already in place, while three more collection centres are to be built in Sector 2, Omicron One and Alpha One.
